Brain waves are quantified to measure the state of the human brain.

For example, when brain waves are in the beta range, the brain enters an excited state, becoming more susceptible to negative information, intensifying preconceptions, and narrowing one’s perspective.

When brain waves reach gamma waves, which are higher than beta waves, one may perceive non-existent things as real, leading to a state resembling schizophrenia.

However, when brain waves are in the alpha wave state, they reflect a relaxed brain, broadening one’s perspective.

Then, when reaching a state even more relaxed than alpha waves, brain waves become theta waves, matching the brain waves during light sleep. This enables a broad perspective and calm judgment.

When you relax even more than theta waves, brain waves become delta waves, matching the state during deep sleep. This allows you to notice things essential for problem-solving and gain sudden, necessary flashes of insight.

 

In other words, having many distracting thoughts means your brain waves are in a beta or gamma wave state.

This narrows your perspective, prevents you from noticing what’s needed, and stops necessary flashes of insight from arising.

However, it is possible for your brainwaves to reach theta or delta states even while going about your daily life.

In Japan, this is called standing meditation.
